Power Community Youth Visit!
Today the 23rd of June 2009 we had our second lesson from the Power Community Youth Program. There are a few athletes that come every week but they mix around. This week Moronia Gerrard from the Adelaide Thunderbirds Netball club, Jonathon Giles, Matt Thomas and Wade Thompson from Port Adelaide Football club came and spoke to us. They teach us about a Healthy Lifestyle and how to keep fit.
This week they spoke to us about smoking and cigarettes and the damage it can do to you. Did you know that one cigarette has 4,000 chemicals in it? You can also spend 10,000 dollars in 10 years.
There are many different chemicals in a cigarette I will name a few, Arsenic is Rat Poison, Ammonia has Cleaninig products in it, Butane has Gas in it and Toluene has Nail Polish Remover in it. Yuck! That has put me off smoking not that I was ever thinking of going to smoke thats disgusting.

Murray Darling System
Over the past two weeks at school we have learnt, seen videos and pictures of the Murray Darling System and how there is no water left there at all. In 2004 the water would be right at your feet when you walk past, 2007 slightly lower, 2008 about ankle hight, finally 2009 there is nothing there it’s just dirt. We have watched many videos and seen pictures of it drying up and we have also even been there it is amazing seeing it in real life. You can actually see what it is and also reading about it is very interesting. It has been a good experience and I will have this stuck in my head for a long time.
Inquiry Assignment Reflection
I think I did have some challenges they were chosing the quote and having to write a detailed explanation for it. The thing I found most interesting would be having to create an image of our own and to match the quote. On this task I felt good because I knew I could finish it on the due date and have the courage and patience to do it.
Quote
No man will be a great leader who wants to do it all himself, or to get all the credit fo doing it.
By Andrew Carnegie
I chose this quote because I think it is true. A selfish person will definately not be good at leadership because it is always about themselves and they will always try to get their way. And good leadership is thinking team and showing that they don’t do it all themselves and it’s not just about them. There are many types of examples like Barrack Obama he doesn’t do it because he want’s to say that he is The President Of The United States he wants to help America. He doesn’t want to get all the credit for it himself because it wansn’t just him. I’m sure he has a lot of courgae to be President, he want’s to do it to help America it’s not just for him.
I drew this this picture by hand and I scanned it onto the computer I hope you like it.
Are Leaders Made Or Born?
Are leaders made or born?
Well I think Leaders are MADE AND BORN because people could have parents or relatives who are leaders and may want to become one themselves or they may have the ability and are capable of being a organised and great leader. They also may want to be a role model to the younger children and may want to have a great reputation and be the best they can be. And leaders who are made maybe want to become a leader because they may have the ability of being a great leader and don’t want to have a bad reputation. It is basically the same except for leaders who are made may not have a reletive or frined or someone they know a leader.
Week 9 Quote
” The only way to have a friend is to be one.” By R Emerson
My interpretation for this week’s quote is if you want a “friend” you have to be one to them. If you are not a friend to them then you will not have a friend. I agree strongly because in my experiences when I am nice and to someone they are always nice back back to me. That way always be nice and friendly to others and they should be nice and friendly back and you might become great friends with the you never know. Always remember ” treat others how how you want to be treated”.
Week 8 Quote
People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel. ~ Jim Downing
I like this weeks quote because if you do nice things to others they will never forget what you did to them but if you do something really bad to them they will never forget the bad thing you done to them you might be enemies or may be good friends.
Christmas
I can’t believe it’s already the end of the year WOW it’s gone so fast and it’s nearly christmas. For christmas i’m getting Animal Crossing on the Nintendo DS and an I-Pod. An Australian Picture
This term inquiry unit is ‘What Makes Us Australian’Mr Wegner told us to go on to flickr and Picture Australia and look for a picture and we had to write 2-3 paragraphs about the picture we chose.
Uluru is in the Northern Territory, Alice Springs. Uluru is one of the biggest rocks in Australia. The name Uluru is Aboriginal.
